Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Depart U.S./Arrive Lima, Peru: Travel to Lima

Upon your arrival around midnight in Lima, Peru you will need to clear customs and immigration before exiting the airport. Your local representative will meet you outside, and transfer you to Country Club 5* hotel. Miami and New York (JFK) passengers depart late this evening for Peru.

Day 2: Lima City Tour and Larco Museum Visit/Dinner and Folk Show

If you're flying from Miami or New York (JFK), you'll arrive at the airport in Lima this morning, where you will be met at the airport and transfer you to your hotel. Today you will enjoy a half-day private tour of the city of Lima, including a visit to the Larco Museum. Accommodations in a luxury suite with jacuzzi, sauna and a bottle of champagne. (B/D)

Days 3 - 5: Fly to Puerto Maldonado/Amazon Jungle Tour/Fly to Cusco

Three extraordinary, contiguous Amazon reserves lie only a 25-minute flight from Cusco - the great Tambopata Madidi Wilderness on the Peru-Bolivia border. Taken together, these parks are two-thirds the size of Costa Rica and protect the most species-rich natural habitats in the world (January 1994 and March 2000 cover stories, National Geographic Magazine). No other company can offer you as much wildlife viewing in the greater Tambopata-Madidi region. Travelers enjoy warm pancakes and coffee while viewing the photogenic Heath Macaw Lick from a comfortable floating blind anchored only 100 feet (30 metres) away, a fraction of the distance from which one views the more remote clay licks in Tambopata. Finally, the rainforest on both sides of the Heath River is fully representative of the world's most biologically diverse habitat--the Amazon forest at the foot of the eastern slope of the Andes. Fly from Puerto Maldonado to Cusco, reception and transfer to the Libertador 5* hotel in Luxury Suite. (B/L/D)

Day 6: City Tour/ Explore Sacsayhuaman and Kenko/Visit to Qoricancha Sun Temple

Begin this morning's explorations with a visit to the city and the nearby ruins of Sacsayhuaman, Kenko and Tambomachay, which will give you a good background of the incredible history and culture of the region. Remainder of the afternoon and evening at leisure. (B/L/D)

Day 7: Explore the Sacred Valley of the Incas

After breakfast at your hotel, travel north of Cuzco to Pisac, a town known for its splendid Incan ruins high on the mountain overlooking the city. Pisac is known for: its lively and colorful market. After lunch at a local restaurant, return to your hotel and the rest of the afternoon is free for independent exploration, which past travelers say they have greatly enjoyed. Overnight at Pakaritampu hotel in the Sacred Valley. (B,L)

Day 8: Train Journey to Explore Machu Picchu

Early in the morning after breakfast, board the Vistadome class train to Machu Picchu for one of the world's great railway journeys. Descend 1300 meters through the Sacred Valley of the Incas and follow the Urubamba river until the final stop at Aguas Calientes. Lunch and night at Machu Picchu Pueblo Inkaterra Hotel in the Town of Aguas Calientes. (B/L/D)

Day 9: Exploring Machu Picchu/Back to Cusco

It is said that Machu Picchu is a place of great spirituality, and the best time of the day to sense this is at sunrise. Early risers may walk through Machu Picchu in the mist to explore the ruins without crowds. Take the 20 minute bus ride up to Machu Picchu, perched 600 meters above the river. Your guide will explain the history and the myths that surround this archeological wonder. Machu Picchu, the famous lost city of the Inca is one of the most magical and mysterious places on Earth! Stand 2,430m above sea-level in the middle of a tropical mountain. Constructed from precisely sculptured granite blocks carefully joined with the projecting exposed stone of the surrounding mountain, the site may well be the finest architectural achievement of the new world. Afterwards, take the bus for your return to Aguas Calientes for lunch. Take the train back to Cusco. Reception and transfer to your Hotel. (B/L/D)

Day 10: Cusco Leisure Day
