BIRDWATCHING TOUR

This extraordinary adventure reaches deep into territory virtually unknown to many travelers. Outstanding highlights are the San Rafael waterfall, a jungle spectacle of stunning beauty. We undertake an exciting 3-day trip to observe the flora and fauna. Highlights of this tour are, among other things, watching of the famous "Cock of the Rock" and lodging in virgin tropical rainforest.
Itinerary:

Day 01: Quito - Papallacta hot thermal springs -San Rafael Waterfall
After breakfast we drive along the Quito - Lago Agrio road. After we cross a high pass (4.050 m) we visit the Papallacta thermal springs to enjoy a nice swim and relax. Following we descend towards the San Rafael Lodge at 1.380 m. If the weather conditions permit we visit Ecuador's highest waterfall - San Rafael. Dinner and accommodation. -/L/D


Day 02: Gallo de Pena Trail

After breakfast we hike along the "Gallo de Pena Trail" through rainforest in order to observe its rich wildlife. Today we use our rubber boots to negotiate the muddy sections. If the weather conditions are good we can enjoy spectacular views of other volcanoes and the immensity of the Amazon rainforest. Return to the lodge. Dinner and accommodation. B/L/D

Day 3: Papallacta - Quito
Early in the morning we go for bird watching and after breakfast we drive back to Quito. On route we stop by the thermal springs of Papallacta where you can eat fresh trout and probably have a bath as well. Late in the afternoon we arrive in Quito. B/L/-

In the price included:
All transfers, English speaking ornithologist guide, National park entrance fee, accommodation in double rooms at San Rafael Lodge, meals as mentioned above, free purified water, rubber boots, rain ponchos. Our guides are equipped with cell phones and walkie talkies for emergencies.

Not included in the price:
International Flights, International Airport taxes USD 25,- in Quito, Single accommodation (available up on request and with extra cost), binoculars, alcoholic beverages, tips, personal items and travel insurance!

Equipment needed for your Trip:
Comfortable trekking Boots, warm clothes, water proof clothes, binoculars (Rain Poncho, rubber boots, we provide if you want), sun cream, sun glasses, hat, camera, film (100 ASA), and travel alarm clock, flashlight with batteries, zip-lock bags to keep clothing and equipment dry, tennis shoes, gloves, shorts, cotton clothes, long sleeves shirts, pants (but not jeans) towel and personal toilet kit.
