The civilizations that developed in ancient Mexico, in the area called Mesoamerica, had many traits in common, such as: a writing system; a calendar; a ballgame; the custom of building temples on “pyramids” or platforms; and agriculture (cultivating mainly corn, beans and squash). The Maya area covers the states of Campeche, Chiapas, Tabasco, the Yucatan and Quintana Roo. The Maya are well known for their advanced mathematical and astrological calculations, as well as their knowledge of astronomy.

DAY 1 – ARRIVAL IN MEXICO CITY
Upon arrival at Mexico City airport, you will be met by our representative and then transferred to the hotel. Overnight in Mexico City (B)

Day 2 – MEXICO CITY – HISTORICAL CENTER AND ANTHROPOLOGY MUSEUM
After breakfast enjoy a full day tour of the historical Center of Mexico City. Visit “The Zocalo”, the Cathedral, the Main Aztec Temple, and the National Palace its beautiful murals, painted by the great artist, Diego Rivera. Visit Chapultepec Park and the “Pink Zone”, return to the hotel and spend the rest of the day at leisure. Overnight in Mexico City (B)

DAY 3 – MEXICO CITY – PUEBLA – OAXACA
Today leave Mexico City for Puebla, the “City of Angels”, where the majority of its buildings are decorated with tiles and beautifully sculpted freestone. Visit Santa Maria Tonantzintla, a temple gorgeously decorated by indigenous hands, the Rosary Chapel, the Cathedral, the Main Square and historical downtown. After lunch continue to Oaxaca. Overnight in Oaxaca (B, L)

Day 4 – OAXACA – MONTE ALBAN – MITLA – TULE
Visit Monte Alban, built on a mountain by the Zapotecs where we will find important cultural remains of the Olmecs, Zapotecs, and Mixtecs. Visit the Main Square, the Observatory, the Stones of the Dancers, and Tomb #7. Continue to the archaeological city of Mitla, where the buildings are decorated with symbolic mosaics. Stop at the Tule Tree en route, one of the largest living beings in the world. Return to Oaxaca to visit the Cathedral, the Seven Regions Fountain, Santo Domingo Church, the Chapel of the Rosary, and the Gold Museum. Overnight in Oaxaca (B)

DAY 5 – OAXACA – SUMIDERO CANYON – SAN CRISTOBAL
Today early in the morning you will depart to Tuxtla Gutierrez, capital city of the state of Chiapas, breakfast will be on route. Enjoy the landscape of the southern mountains and the Indian communities along the way. Enjoy a boat ride through the Sumidero Canyon, 1000 meters at its highest point. After lunch continue the trip and pass through Chiapa de Corzo and visit its impressive Mudejar style fountain on our way to San Cristobal de las Casas. Overnight at San Cristobal (B, L)

DAY 6 – SAN CRISTOBAL DE LAS CASAS – NATIVE COMUNITIES
Visit San Juan Chamula and Zinacantan, typical native towns, and witness an ancient religious ritual ceremony. In the afternoon, visit the Market, the Cathedral, and the famous Santo Domingo Church. Overnight in San Cristobal (B)

DAY 7 – SAN CRISTOBAL DE LAS CASAS – AGUA AZUL – PALENQUE
Continue to Agua Azul waterfalls to admire its turquoise colored waters. Continue on to Palenque, dinner and overnight in Palenque (B, D)

Day 8 – PALENQUE – CAMPECHE
Visit the UNESCO Archaeological Heritage site of Palenque, an ancient Mayan city. Tour the Temple of the Inscriptions, where King Pakal’s Tomb was discovered. We head for the coastal town of Campeche, where the Spanish first set foot on Mexican soil. Dinner and overnight in Campeche (B, D)

DAY 9 – CAMPECHE – UXMAL – MERIDA
Today enjoy a panoramic city tour of the Historic Fortified town of Campeche, declared a cultural and historic heritage site, visit its cathedral, its fortresses, its walls, mansions and plazas. Depart to Uxmal, another impressive cultural and archaeological heritage site, also declared by UNESCO; there visit The Fortune Teller Pyramid, the Nun’s Square, the Governor’s Palace, and the Ballgame Court. After lunch you will continue to Merida, known as “the White City”; take a panoramic tour through the Montejo boulevard, the monument to Motherland, the Main Square, its majestic mansions and beautiful streets. Overnight in Merida (B, L)

DAY 10 – MERIDA – CHICHEN TZA – CANCUN
Depart to Chichén Itzá, the most famous Mayan ruin in Mexico, declared a cultural and archaeological heritage site by UNESCO and recently named ONE OF THE NEW SEVEN WONDERS OF THE WORLD, where we will visit the pyramid “The Castle”, the Ballgame Court, the Observatory, the One Thousand Columns Square, the Jaguars’ Temple, the Sacred Well (cenote), etc. After lunch continue on to Cancun. Overnight in Cancun (B, L)

DAY 11 – CANCUN
Enjoy a free day at leisure or for your own activities. Overnight in Cancun (B)

DAY 12 – CANCUN
Today you will be transferred to Cancun International Airport for your onward flight (B)
